Would this work?
I'm thinking of the BMS 4550. I just acquired a pair of M19's with 802-8G drivers on 811B horns, and I love them, except that on some recordings the HF horn sound bothers my ears. They're certainly not screechy by any means, and they sound good on most recordings, but I'm wondering if they could be improved.
I'm not going to do anything rash, and I'll certainly give these speakers more listening time before I do any mods.
However, I've read over in the Lansing forums how the BMS drivers helped Valencias, and from the descriptions it sounds like it just might be what I'm looking for.
What additional crossover compensation would be required if I chose to go this route?
BTW, I'm using a recently serviced Sherwood S-8000 IV tube receiver for amplification, so I don't think what I'm hearing is a case of the SS/Horn thing. I'll also be trying these out with a MAC1700, which has a warm SS sound, but I haven't gotten around to it yet.
