Bogen B62/Lenco L70 Quick and Easy Tonearm swap...

So I had some time this week and I decided to do something about the high mass tonearm on my Bogen. In case you don't know, the tonearm on the stock Bogen has a longer effective length than most 9 inch arms, so a lot of the more common arms that are used in swaps do not fit without modification to the plinth. I used a tonearm from a pioneer Pl-41 table I had on hand. I started to size it up on the Bogen and it looked like it will fit without any plinth cutting. (I'm all about quick and easy. More time for listening!) One way to find out! Swap took all of 1 hr to complete and the alignment worked out perfect. For proper tracking angle, I had to take off the rubber gasket and and aluminum trim piece that goes in between the tonearm mount and plinth. (see pictures) The stock arm lift works perfectly too! This a small step up and allows the use of the more readily available headshells and somewhat higher compliance cartridges. I'm happy with it!

How does the tonearm from the Pioneer sounds vs the Lenco?

I could never get the tonearm on my L75 to track quite right. I replaced it with a Decca International (also a drop in with no changes required) and it sounds great.

Honestly, I can't really compare since I could not get the Pickering/Stanton cartridges to track at light enough tracking force with the Lenco arm. The Bogen arm was missing parts internally and did not work right either. If it's any consolation, this arm sounds fantastic on the Bogen! I have the same arm on a thorens 124 too and love it. Great bang for the buck, removable headshell and i can now try a whole bunch of cartridge/stylii easily! And I can make a side by side comparison of the stock Bogen to a stock TD 124 fairly! I just have to swap headshells!

Removable headshells are nice. I have removable sleds for my Dual 1019 but the Decca tonearm on the Lenco and my Rega P3 do not and it's a pain to change and then align the new cartridge. I think you had a great idea using the tonearm from the Pioneer on the Lenco. I didn't realize those Pioneer arms had the right geometry.

Thanks for the compliment! I put this same arm on a rekokut for a friend a few years back and realized it was a bit longer than a 9 inch arm. This arm was actually on a QRK broadcast table I bought! I was surprised it was a perfect fit except for hangin off the back of the base. No biggie

Ahhh 1019! My favorite stacker that's actually a great sounding tt! 1019 is what started my madness into turntables and still in my system! Their tonearm is the bomb! Those 1019 sleds are a pain.! I have one out of ten that works reliably! PS, have you seen the guy on ebay making new headshells for the 1019? Spring loaded with actual springs!

I really like my 1019 - it's in daily use @ my office system. Agreed, the 1019 sleds are a royal pain. It took a lot of futzing to get mine to work right. I have two of the original Dual sleds and I bought one of the new ones from the guy @ ebay some time ago and so far it seems to be working OK. I hope the spring loaded contacts hold up.
