Stopped by the local Goodwill Electronics Store tonight and found a Bogen Presto amplifier. I could not locate any model numbers. It states that Bogen Presto was a division of Siegler. I don't know much about tubes, but the amp seemed to work okay. It is probably from around 1960. There also were a pair of large wooden cabinet speakers on wheels. I could not locate in information them. The front of speaker two half circles with the lover third open in a upside-down V-shape . )( Very heavy. They were very old, be new to me.

Pics?

I'm relatively new to this hobby too, but old amps will have old (generally electrolytic) capacitors which must be replaced if not already done recently. The hazard of leaving them would be a short circuit which could blow up expensive other stuff, or running with voltages significantly out of spec which can cause premature tube failure (at least.)
There is a TON of great information here on restoring tube amps.

you'll see Bogen products (consumer and pro/PA) at www.radioshackcatalogs.com and www.alliedcatalogs.com (check late 1950s through mid 1960s).

"upside-down V-shape" makes me think of Karlsons - the rest of the description doesn't, though...

Bogen amp and ? Speakers.

Yes, those are the speakers I saw. I will have to stop by the Goodwill again today. The Bogen amp had inputs for two turntable. Even a TV input! So it was NOT a commercial unit.

Thanks all for the information The Bogen Amp looks like the AP-40 from the 1961 Radio Shack catalog. It does have a tuner too. That RS site is great. Should I grab this Bogen for $40? Thank you for all the great information. jcb of NE

If I found it for $40, I might hurt somebody whipping out the credit card.... nice little amp, about 15W per channel. But are you prepared to do some work on it? It will probably need at least SOME caps replaced, often easiest to replace them all. And I DO have a basement full of tubes in case it needs one or two...

Isn't the tuner a "separate" they made the matching AP-40 amp?

Does it look like this (tuner no amp) ??:

Or like this (AP40 amp):

I'd grab the tuner if that's what it is then look for the matching amp and call it a good day.

Cheers,
Bob

It was just the lower half. So no turner! With all the guys around it yesterday it was hard to know what it was. It was gone today. I bought a SAE receiver at the Goodwill earlier in the week, so had my limit for the week.
