Books

Certified Crazy.
I love books. I have a thirst for knowledge that's never ending, really. When I stop by the thrift for some audio gear I always go past the bookshelves to see what looks interesting.

I think the coolest find so far has been a book on Neurotoxicology; it covers everything from snake venom to pot to LSD and various chemicals. It's a great read. Got a book about pouring concrete foundations and rebar methods as well as a book that explains chemical industrial processes (add this and that to make sulfuric acid, etc... )

Another good find was an electricians 'handbook.' This one will shod you how to wire up an outlet and how yo put up your own telephone poles with proper guy wires. Huge leather-bound book from the '50s; every character depicted digging or working is in a suit.

On book I regret not buying was a 1964 alphabetical compendium of all significant synthesized chemicals known to man. I kid you not the thing was five inches thick with pages as thin as those from a telephone book. It had the name, the chemical name, the chemical diagram, and a short blurb about it.

Anyone else share this illness with me? I love books, but can't stand fiction, I'm afraid.

Picked up a 160 year old Latin-English dictionary at an estate sale for $0.50, too. For some reason it's not organized like a dictionary and I have no idea how to use it, even have my English major girlfriend baffled at how it works.

My taste in books is similar, I also collect a lot of books but have little interest in works of fiction. My books basically fall into 2 groups: books to do with my studies (I'm working on a phd in ancient languages of the near east), and old technical books. Which Latin dictionary is it? I can probably tell you how it works.

I too love books; I am a slow fiction reader, but will read enthusiatically anything that deals with History, Mathematics, Spanish, Latin, English Literature.
