Get a couple of speaker stands from craigs list and save some money for a subwoofer around Christmas time. You will thank me for this one.

Don't know what to say, that is not what PROJECT 2501 is asking, he used this old thread to express his opinion or better understand how to decide on which speaker, regardless brand or model. As for the requested recommendation by OP, this is an old thread; last recommendation was made by BeauZooka back in March 1, 2013. Before being a fan boy, read a little, that way you don't look like a "fan boy"; not saying you are, but certainly came out as one. Also, and this has been discussed extensively in the forum, when making a recommendation, don't say just because these reviews; there are many reviews by different people, many might be similar, but there are also detractors, especially in USER reviews. Look at the overall picture, mix it a bit and give 2 or 3 alternatives. Yes, Elac's appear to be good (haven't auditioned, don't own), but it doesn't appeal to everyone. Again, your recommendation has nothing to do with PROJECT 2501 posted concern.

Fair enough. I was responding to the OP from 2013, not Project 2501's comment on room acoustics. My bad. I'm not a fanboy. I'm to old and to fat (right now) to qualify. I'm actually partial to the work that Siegfried Linkwitz has been doing but that is a longer conversation. He has a lot to say say about speaker design and room acoustics so I would suggest a visit to the Linkwitz Labs homepage. Siegfried has forgotten more about audio than I know. If that makes me a fanboy, I'll buy the tee shirt.

Polk Monitor 40 Easily found @ $150
Polk TSi200 Easily found @ $250, less if you're willing to go "open box/refurb."

Very classy answer...I wasn't saying you are a fan boy, just that you came across as one; obviously you understood what I wanted to say. And, don't worry, hnash53 with fellow passenger RandyFloyd76 just jumped in the same boat you just disembarked from. Have a great weekend!

With used you will probably get more value per dollar. Some common recommendations for around $250.00 are:

PSB Image series
Paradigm Mini Monitors
Monitor Audio Bronze
Monitor Audio Radius 90
KEF Q Series
Mordaunt-Short Carnival
Klipsch RB series

This past two weeks yours is like the 10th thread asking the same thing. The best thing is for you to read other threads, with similar titles to yours, you will find more suggestions, all very good. The best will be to check your local CL, Audiogon, and other classifieds. See what you like within your budget, and feel free to ask here. BUT, WHATEVER YOU DO, ALWAYS TRY TO AUDITION, you will find a particular brand or sound that you prefer, and can always ask us for speakers with similar characteristics.

You could be my spokesperson on this way (saved me some time)! More importantly, hope you and your family are doing well after the hurricane. I can't even imagine what's it like, even though I'm in FL (we dodged Irma). Best wishes.
