What are the missions and the model #?Bose's aren't terrible. They make sound. I had a pair of Series II 301's (supposedly the good models) and they made sound, and made ok mid-bass.. Always believed they would make great garage/shop speakers where critical reproduction is not important. Ran for almost a year until these Missions appeared at a thrift for $20. Donated the Bose and a Luxman R-404 receiver to a friend who's happy with the setup.
But no way ever in a million years would those 301's have the sweet, crisp highs as recapped Missions, while the Missions hold their own in vocals and low end. Naturally, a nice sub improves that as little speakers just aren;t made to rumble the house.
I've never heard Athena's but I have heard Missions and I like them. Even if the boxes aren;t super stout like more expensive speakers, they take well to a few pieces of side-side and fore-aft bracing inside.
And they are acoustic suspension (sealed box), so they'll eat up some amp power for volume while the cones won;t go all mushy and uncontrolled like ported speakers.
