Bose 210 Series IV—good deal?

Hi there, I am a newbie starting to build my first turntable system, which I’m looking to build with a Technics tt. Quality sound is a priority; quality build and ease of use quickly follow. I am on a budget so I’m looking to start with quality, affordable components that I would upgrade as I am able.

I recently found a pair of Bose bookshelf speakers—Bose 210 Series IV Direct/Reflecting wired speakers. The seller is asking $30.

Is this a fair price? Are the speakers a good addition?

Welcome Joe B,
It’s no secret that Bose speakers in general don’t get much love here on AK .
I have no experience with the 210’s
I know the 901’s 501’s and 301’s can be pretty decent
All the Bose speakers do much better with subs
At 30$ not even a 1/2 a tank of gas
Make sure all the speakers work and the woofers don’t require new foam surrounds.
I would also suggest that you start off with the best possible speakers you can find and build a system around them. Maybe expand your search for something better than Bose

Joe,
you have to put yourself out there, Craigs list, Garage/Estate sales,
AK's own Bartertown, US Audiomart, Check for Ebay prices, if in a pinch.
Where are you located?
I would start off with Known brands, and ones that are somewhat efficient.(90 DB} or more.

One more thing to look out for, stay away from 4 Ohm speakers.
8 ohms seems ok with mostly anything
As discussed on other forums, some older receivers and most AV receivers
react badly get hot, blow protection devices ect.
You're in a decent area, even Canada has some screaming good deals.

and willing to move something Good to make room for other Stuff

Joe B, if you come across Bose 601 series lll, those are really nice if you find them $200 or less. They don't require much power either. As for impedance ratings, as long as your amp is rated 4-ohm, you should be okay with most speakers in the 4-8 ohm range. Good luck and welcome to Ak!
