Bose 301 Continental

Can anyone tell me what is special about the continental series of Bose 301 verses the regular 301s? They seem to command a much higher price...I'm sure I will get a ton of closed minded idiots who hate bose but I do like the 301 and was wondering if anyone new what makes these better... 7301445328_3151bd8fdc_b.jpg

They look like the series lll's I have with the slot for the ports. But the cabinets look to be hade of thicker and better material than the lll's. Maybe thicker MDF instead of the thin particle board? And maybe better dampening material inside?
 
Bose started the Continental versions beginning with the 901s as a premium package. The speaker itself didn't change nor did the specs. The cabinetry, however, was varied to justify the premium price they commanded. Ditto the 301 version.

Consider it bling in a nice way.

i'm not familiar with the Continentals...but I have 3 sets of 301's ( series 2, 3, and 5 ) and my guess would be that they upgraded the cabinets and added the red stripe.
 
Wow!....of all the dozens and dozens of 301's I have seen, I have never seen this Continental pair. They have to be pretty rare. I just thought they made the Continental series for the 901 for which I now own three pairs of. I have the equalizer, chrome stands, manuals and original boxes for them also. They were also a small upgrade to the regular series II offerings. Great find!..:)

In 1992 I owned 2 pair of the 301 Continentals, and there were differences just besides the cool laminated wood and an extended bass port. They did have a slightly higher power handling then the normal 301s and had a deeper bass response and if inremeber correctly the woofer was a tad beefier. I had them running througj a JBL Control 5 subwoofer of a Yamaha MX-1000 a setup i wish i never got rid of.
