Bose 301 II Surround Replacement Fail

I had a pair of these in my stored basement for past 20 years that I bought in 1983 and got them out. Of course they needed surround replacements and I ordered them and put them on and all seem to go well. Hooked them up and one of the woofers is not operating correctly. If I put pressure on it while playing it's fine, but when I let go the voice coil seems to be rubbing. Did I not put one of the surrounds on right or is it just a bad woofer? I know lot's of Bose bashers, but I literally had these on a bookshelf in my previous home and they sounded great there.

If you connect the driver to 50 - 80 Hz tone while you glue the edge, the tone will keep the voice coil centered. Just keep it low in volume, just enough to know it's running.

Yep agree with using the tone method - I used to use voice coil shims but I never liked lifting the dust cap etc so the tone method is much more convenient and it hasn't let me down yet.
