Bose 301ii modification

Blowed Fuse

ok ok ok….. It’s just a little pin prick
I picked up a set of 301’s on the cheap. The surrounds were gone so it turned into my first refoam. Many of you can probably tell from the extra glue I’m a novice. The room I put these in is small and filled with furniture limiting my options for placement to get the best sound from the rear facing tweeter. I thought to myself if the tweets were facing forward, placement would be so simple. The pictures are pretty self explanatory. Please keep in mind I’m not a carpenter or engineer. Didn’t even use a tape measure just eyeballed everything so the work is a little crude. I used ink pen tubes and long screws for the stands. The back screw is original just reangled it into an existing hole. I still need to line up one tweet thats a little crooked. Only one speaker done at this point so I’ve not got to test them out yet. Unless the crossover is doing something different to the rear facing tweet they should sound ok. The grill fits just fine.A918FE61-2054-4773-994D-575439A94AAE.jpeg

Well, if you are planning on keeping them and they sound good and suit your needs that's fine, but you basically undid what they were designed to do, i.e. direct reflecting, could be an issue if you try to sell them, can you reverse what you did if the need arises?

The days of big resale prices for Bose are long gone. Most people won't know or care about the tweeter and might actually like it. Flipping the tweeter back should be easy, but these are $100 speakers at best anymore.

I agree they are $100 speakers, but people still get a boner for Bose, go figure

It looks easily reversable. If it works out I don't see a problem.
I had a pair of 301 lll's that sounded pretty good. But placement can be a real problem with this design.
That third picture looks like the speaker is surprised. :yikes:

Easy to return it back the way it was. Didn’t have much $ invested. They sound pretty good so im probably gonna keep em.

Ive listened to these quite a bit past few years setup in my office. I usually knock paper cone tweeters but this Bose one isnt all too bad, surprises me some times.
