Bose 501 "Series One" Opinions?

Has anyone heard any of the original Bose 501's? I saw a set today -- was shocked when I saw they were Bose because they don't look like Bose. No way to see the foams or hear them.

Are they anything like the Bose of "today" or were they actually good? :P

They were very good but people tended to use them as tables. They also have placement issues because of the tweeters.
 
The grills are stapled into place, and if they have not been pulled off you can bet the 10" woofers need a re-foam!

These speakers are OK- they play to the knees, not to the ears. I revuilt a set years ago with removable grills and updated drivers. It sooked pretty good and again sounded OK. They do make nice tables once refinished....

Owned a pair back in the day & even with a low budget all in one stereo amp driving them, they sounded very nice. I still regret trading them. The styling is also very nice, IMO.
