Bose 601 Series I Fuse Identification

Hi,

I recently picked up a pair of Bose 601 Series I. I hooked them up to test and wasn't getting any sound out of one of the speakers. I opened the top and saw a blown fuse in the crossover. I can't find any information about it online. Can someone help identify it or a substitute? I have no idea what to replace it with now.


I read the 601 manual and looked around online, it doesn't look like the 601 came with a fuse. Bose actually recommends installing one in the manual. But this had to be OEM because the grilles were stapled on and had never been removed. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you!

It may be a current limiter for protection.
 
It is a current limiting device. As you crank up the volume the current is "absorbed" by the bulb.

It is a dome light bulb readily available at any auto parts store.

You can bypass the device but will loose the protection.

Somebody had to be really beating on them, but the 601s are real pigs when it comes to power. Easy to overdo with the typical receivers they would be attached to. They need to be fed.
 
You bet someone had to be beating on them! Just like a light bulb like wmgwizrad says above. The more current through them, the hotter it gets, resistance goes up.
That leads to reduced power to the speakers to protect them.
 
They might not have been beaten up as the filaments in these bulbs are old and have become fragile, a good bump can cause the filament to disintegrate.

This is a very common "problem" with the early 601's.
