Bose 601 Series I

we can recone for you. Often a generic replacement options is less costly than reconing this size speaker but the difficulty with the Bose 601 is finding a 16 ohm replacement option. You can use a higher dcr 8 ohm speaker but if you prefer sticking with the original 16 ohm speaker, we can recone for you. btw, in case anyone is confused about reconing vs refoaming... refoaming replaces only the surround and usually the center dustcap while reconing replaces all the moving parts in the speaker frame- voice coil, spider, cone, surround, dustcap, pigtail leads and sometimes gaskets

I bought my 601 refoam kit from Ebay for about $31 shipped. It did not come with voice coil shims, but did include a CD of tones that I used for VC alignment. I can't remember the seller ID, but I got the kit from a guy named Rick Cobb. I ended up getting a used woofer from Ebay as well, so I've been rockin' my refoamed 601s for months now :music:

Wish I'd have seen this thread sooner. Last Friday, I just found a box with a complete set of four 16-ohm Bose 601 woofers, already refoamed... that I had forgotten I had...

Regards,
Gordon.

glad to hear your repair was successful. for future reference, our DIY refoam kit (with glue, shims, dustcaps, instructions) runs $16.00 per pair. Shipping is usually $5-9.00 with insurance. cathy@speakerex.com.

Bose 601

From 1977 model. Bought from a guy moving to digital about 10 years ago.
I have listened many high end speakers and Bose 601 for dollar for dollar is one of the best!
Well defined bass, clean trebles and hard to beat mid range..with exceptional sonic range and spacious sound stage.. all this without foams. That's right. No foams around the woofers. I've been listening without foams all theses years!
Everyone who hears couldn't believe their ear because of the flawless sound. The only time you can tell is when the volume is set for very low which I never have need for.
