Bose 901 Equalizer

Not sure if this is the correct forum but here goes... I picked up a Bose 901 equalizer for a couple of bucks and tried to install it between my Kenwood C2 preamp and my Kenwood M1A amp. I figured it would be simple. Preamp amp out plugged into the preamp in connects on the equalizer, then from the equalizer out to the amplifier. When I powered up I got the buzz sound from hell! Loud!! Immediately powered off. What did I do wrong? Thanks for the help

Nope, don't do that. That 901 eq is specifically made for the matching speakers and is not meant to be used in other systems.
They can be worth a few bucks, see if you can sell it for a profit.

Something is wrong, either with the unit, the speakers, or how you hooked the unit up. Maybe the speakers can't take the 901 EQ curve.
I removed my 901 pair when I got my Cornwalls but forgot to remove the EQ. Nothing bad happened. In fact, it surprised me that I rather enjoyed the sound of the 901 EQ through the Cornwalls!

Put the unit in a tape monitor loop so you can switch it in AND control the volume so you don’t get that system damaging buzz at full volume.

Then if it buzzes with you select Tape Monitor with the volume down low, remove the EQ and service it to fix the problem. Then you have a unit worth a couple bills or usable with a set of 901s. Usually the correct 901 eq is the Series Unmarked and II work with either EQ, same with III and IV and again with V and VI. Each two series have similar EQs. Sure any one will work but it is better to use the right 901s with the right eq.

Use the main inputs and outputs on the EQ for your tape monitor circuit install.
