BOSE 901 Series IV

So i just bought a pair of bose 901 series iv with EQ and pair of klipsch kg 2 all for $100/ My question is as i was researching these speakers i notice that my bose have all black speakers and there are other bose 901 series iv with the blue speakers. Whats the difference and how much are these speakers worth with eq and no stand in good condition.

I seriously doubt anyone would go to the trouble of replacing 18 drivers in a pair of 901's. Black cones, blue cones, does it really matter? As long as you got the EQ and they work, I wouldn't worry too much about it considering the following ...

A pair of KG-2's for a Benjamin, if they are in good shape, is a fair enough deal all by itself. If they work, look good and have their original drivers, consider the 901's a freebie.

As for their worth, check eBay closed auctions.

wel just tested the kg 2 . the tweets are not working " assuming their blown"

one dust cap is push on the big woofer . will put picks up later.

Oddly enough, I happen to own a pair of Series IV with blue drivers. I refoamed all of them. I paid $75 at a garage sale. The foam was rotted and the EQ was not working. It took a few dollars at Radio Shack to replace the caps, and then a zener diode. Working Series IVs are worth several hundred dollars. A working EQ will sell for a hundred.

My Kg2s also had blown tweeters. Klipsch sold me replacement diaphragms for a very good price. If they don't have them, there's someone who is active on the Klipsch forums who sells "improved" replacements.

The big woofer is probably a passive radiator. Easy to push it back out.

I wouldn't assume that they are blown without some further testing. I've owned KG-1.5's for about 20 years and they still work perfectly. Pull one tweeter and test it with a DVM. If the voice-coil tests as being open, then yes, it is blown.

The third-party replacement Klipsch diaphragms are offered by Bob Crites, although I'm uncertain if he has them for this tweeter.

The dented dustcap is really more cosmetic than anything else. They can generally be popped back out with a bit of tape or a vacuum cleaner. Do a wee bit of searching here for methods that work. Those KG-2's are really worth trying to save.

You will have to email him. I looked at the site and came away confused. I think the diaphragms work on many of the tweeters.
