I have both the Bose 901 V and Vi Speakers with equalizers.
My question is can I use the 901 V equalizer with the 901 VI speakers or vice versa without damaging anything? I can't seem to find any information on this in my searches.
Bose will tell you what they told me. js1138 is right. The biggest difference between Series V and Series VI is in the equalization, not the speakers. Bose conducted research in the homes of their employees and adjusted the equalization for the acoustics of what they then considered to be an average home.
They also replaced the aluminum on the side with veneered particle board, and made minor adjustments to the EQ for that, as well. The aluminum was unpopular, primarily for its looks, but some people also claimed to hear a deleterious effect on the sound.
Longer-lasting foam surrounds were introduced in the middle of the Series V run.

The series VI manual only says that the series VI equalizer may be used with series V speakers but must not be used with series I-IV speakers, as they require subtantially different equalization.
You know what I did notice though? The VI speakers seem to be a little on the cheaper side as far as quality goes compared to the V. Did anyone else notice? The overall depth is shorter, the sides are wood paneled instead of metal. The screens are also of better quality (IMO).
The V's had a relatively short production run. The VI's got rid of the tweed grill cloth which had adorned the 901's since 1968. It was an attempt to modernize the 901's in appearance. IMO, it was also decontenting the speaker and allowed it to be produced less expensively. Who would have known, the VI's have been produced nearly unchanged since 1987. I have heard there is a MK II version but I have yet been told/shown any concrete changes. Supposedly the drivers now have whizzers but I have yet to see a picture of one of these new drivers.
