Hi,

My first post on this forum, looking for advise on my home theatre setup need. Since I am looking to add only speakers, am using this speakers thread instead of home theatre audio. Would appreciate any assistance you can provide.

Below is my current setup, which I would like to reuse couple of sub woofers that I recently purchased and known to be the really good.

I have 2 requirements:
1. Setup a high quality audio system for my iMac 5K late 2015 model. I already have a Mackie 5BT studio speakers. And purchased SVS SB 2000 (self powered sub woofer). Might be a overkill for this configuration. So I am looking for an alternate subwoofer to pair up with my Mackie 5BT.
SVS SB2000 Link : couldn't post
Mackie CR5BT Link: couldn't post

Need recommendation on a self powered sub woofer which is good enough to get that punch for my 12x12 foot home office which has a open access to front door and kitchen.

2. I have Energy Classic 5.1 speakers & Sony STR DN1010 7.1 channel receiver for my Panosonic Plasma 65" TV. Although it produces decent sound, after hearing high quality base from SB 2000 and JL W6 woofer on my car, I am in the market to replace my complete home theatre system. But here, I would like to move my SB 2000 for my home theatre and my existing Energy Sub Woofer. So I will have a dual sub woofer.

I need recommendation on just a great high quality speakers with dual sub woofer connection for my home theatre. If i have to replace my receiver, I am open for that. I am looking for advanced system that's equivalent or above to Bose Lifestyle 535 system.

As much as it sounds simple, I need some input on the connectivity and exact links to the product for my 5 speaker system. I already have wiring done, but am not 100% sure if it's accurate. Because on my recent calibration i found when left speaker lights up, rear speaker makes sound. It seems messed up, and I dont have a tagging. Anyways that's entirely a diff issue.

Would really appreciate a detailed dresponse on the configuration for two of my needs please. If I can get a 40% discount on a Bose Lifestyle 535, would it be worth that price? But I would still want to avoid bose.

Welcome to AK.

I am not sure why you are having trouble with COPY then PASTE a link. with the web address?

1. Use your Energy sub in your office system.
2. Use your SVS SB-2000 in your home theatre. Add a second SVS SB-2000. Keep your receiver. Use something like this at your receiver to convert from one subwoofer to two. There are a whole bunch of choices for speakers, and without a budget or other criteria, such as how big a speaker can you live with, it is hard to give good advice. However, here are a couple of alternatives:
Ascend Acoustics. Perhaps their model CMT-340 for the front left, right, and center, and keep your Energys for surrounds. That would run you $800. If you are looking for smaller speakers, you could try their HTM 200SE for front, right, and center. That would run you $420. I have had the HTM 200, and they are good, neutral sounding speakers, much better than the Energy or Bose speakers.
Emptek. Perhaps a pair of their R5Bi and a R5Ci center and keep your Energys for surrounds. That would run you $420.
SVS makes decent speakers beyond their subwoofers. You could try their prime bookshelves.

Hi Sargent

Thank you for your response with links. Apologize for the delayed response. I dont think I can use my energy sub woofer, because it's not self powered and I have only 3.5mm jack on my iMac. I am not planning to add any receiver. If am not wrong, this subwoofer need a receiver. I was thinking to buy a different speaker with subwoofer for my iMac and use SVS SB2000 and Energy subwoofer for my home theatre. I already purchased the dual subwoofer cable http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0009MFRW0?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o09_s01

I have trouble when calibrating my energy home theatre. Eg: When front left speaker is lighting up on the TV making sound, I hear sound from rear right. It seems screwed up. Or I am not sure if that doesn't matter. I was told by SVS that I need to recalibrate for it to work properly. Plus I wanted to upgrade for better speakers. My receiver wiring connection is a pain in the bu**. I had to unscrew put wire in and screw it. It's too difficult. Anyways, now with this in mind, please let me know how i can reuse these speakers. I did not realize, I can just use the rear speakers as it is, and just replace the front. Wouldn't it look odd? I dont mind for bigger speaker size for my front right, left and center. Please recommend me the best.

Thank you,

I didn't realize the Energy sub was unpowered. You might try the Mackies without a sub. They might give you enough bass response that you might not need a sub. If you do feel a need for a sub, you could try something like a Dayton Audio SUB-1000 from Parts Express.

You can reuse the Energy speakers as surrounds, but it is up to your taste of whether it would look odd or not. I have two Radio Shack Nova 7B speakers for my front left and right, a Polk center, a Polk subwoofer, and Realistic Minimus 7 speakers for the side surrounds. Not exactly a matching system, but it sounds good.

It sounds to me like you have your speakers plugged into the wrong terminals at your receiver. I agree that hooking the wires up can be a pain. That is why a lot of people use banana plugs. Something like this (http://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters...d_cp_23_4?ie=UTF8&refRID=03QY9JECJHK08DY2KQKC) would make it easier.

Mackie does not have enough power for bass. Honestly Mackie, Vanatoo (costs $499) none of them comes close to Logitech http://www.amazon.com/Logitech-980-...=8-7&keywords=logitech+speaker+with+subwoofer Vanatoo may be good speakers so does Mackie. But 0 bass.

I have Sony STR DN 1010 receiver which is 7.1. I looked at the banana plug. Have no idea how this works as I see no image which has wire connected to it. I would love to get these plugs if it works with my receiver. My receiver has knobs that i rotate put the wire in, and rotate again. There is hardly enough space in the rack makes it very difficult to reach.

Part of my question was, If I can get 40% discount on bose system, would it be worth it rather going through all these hassles? Thanks!

If you look at the link to the banana plugs and scroll down to the customer reviews, the first review is a video that shows how to connect the wire to the banana plug. The second review has pictures. To connect the banana plug to the receiver, you just slide it in to the "knob." Here is a youtube video that shows how:

You probably will find that the Bose system is no better than your Energy Classic 5.1. In my opinion, it would not be worth the "upgrade." It sounds to me like what you find lacking is bass. The SB-2000 will supply that for your TV room. Why don't you try that first? If you are still not happy, try adding a second sub if that is what you think is still lacking, or if it is the speakers you find lacking, try replacing them. The front speakers are the most important, so that's where I would concentrate first. I already gave you some links to good speakers.

For your iMac setup, you asked for an alternate sub that would not be as powerful as the SB-2000. I suggested a Dayton sub from parts express. Another option would be to get a cheap amp to run your Energy subwoofer. If you did either of those, you would have to get cables so you could run the sound from your iMac to both the subwoofer (or to the subwoofer amplifier and then on to the subwoofer) and to the Mackie speakers. If that is too complicated, and if you are happy with the sound of the logitech speakers, the simplest thing would be to get the logitechs and sell the Mackies.
