Bose Series VI Active Equalizer - how do I know if it needs restoration

I bought a set of Bose 901's Series VI without the active equalizer that originally came with them. I found one and bought it. It lights up and I have it wired through the tape monitor circuit, but wanted to know if it is working properly or needs restoration. I will open it up later this week and see if there is anything obvious.

I had a similar situation. I wasn't sure how the 901s should sound, particularly in my rather small room, so I passed them on without ever really knowing. Of course, that actually describes the several 901s I've had - they don't seem to sound as great, or as bad, as the opposing camps in the Bose world would argue. Regardless of whether the equallizer was perfect or defective, nothing about them really delighted me - plenty of people love them, and I'm not arguing with them, but they don't appeal much to me.

I might re-locate them - have them hanging from the ceiling. Right now they are not optimally placed for the reflecting sound stage. Down the road I may try something else, but overall, I am happy with them.
