Boston Acoustics A100 Recaping?

I just did my first refoam job on one of my Boston Acoustics A100 speakers and it made a huge difference. I will do the other one tomorrow. These are early A100's so I am guessing they are from the early 1980's.

Now I am wondering if recapping would make the even better. The high end sounds forward enough so it doesn't seem like anything is missing.

What is the lifespan of the capacitors used in the A100 speakers? Has anyone recapped theirs? Difficult? Maybe this is a case of fixin' something that isn't broke.

I recapped a pair and did not notice any difference, but you never know. Caps are cheap and easy so why not? I recap all vintage speakers now because it has made a big difference in some.

I wonder about my A200's but they were re foamed when I bought them, and they sound really nice in the high end with that typical Boston forwardness, that's sweet and not over powering.

If it ain't broke don't fix it, I guess.

I bought the caps about a year ago, but got sidetracked on the project.

I could be a bit of a pain as they are all/both jammed in tightly on the cup with the terminals, but some nice polys for a few bucks should replace the electrolytics nicely.

Hi
For the A100's series 2. I have a pair to refoam. Ive gotten the correct replacements but I wonder about the top foam gasket, do you retain the old one and glue on top of new surrounds or do you not reinstall them. My kit which came from someone recomended on this forum, did not include these? See photo........

Try using a hair dryer to soften the glue then with a putty knife lift the gasket . Take our time and it should come up , if not a solvent might help to loosen the glue .
But if the gasket gets messed up , you can still replace the surround without it . Just need to get the outside edges down good . Use a few clothes pins and a small hose to hold it down till dry .

2 questions:

Whats a fair amount of time to allow for break-in of new surrounds?

are a-100 supposed to be floor standing? Or the old tweeter with ear level a better set up? The close proximity of woofer and tweeter I am unsure how to place?

Break-in on the surrounds shouldn't take more than 3-5 minutes max. It's the spiders that usually need a bit of time, and you haven't replaced those.

My A100's are floor standing, I'm not sure what you're talking about.
