Boston Acoustics A100 Speakers

Hello all,
I am just getting started in the vintage audio craze. I just purchased a Technics SLA-1 Turntable and am looking to purchase a pair of Boston Acoustics A100 speakers. The receiver I will be using will either be a Sansui 7070 or a Yamaha natural sound 300. The Yamaha amp has Yamaha NS5 speakers already with it. Any reviews of the NS5's and the A100's is greatly appreciated. The system will be placed in a living room. I listen to country, pop, 80's metal and some classical. Basically I am looking for clarity and great sound, not extreme loud listening levels. I like bass but it does not have to be very powerful. I am just looking for a solid system to last awhile with great sound. Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks, John

I like the A100's , been using them in the living room since new in 1984 . Refoamed once so far and still sound VG to me .
But I'm driving them with a Carver amp , don't know about the equipment you listed and how they would match up though .

BTW welcome to AK , enjoy !

I had a pair of A200's (with a Yamaha Natural Sound Integrated) and loved them. I did find them to be much better suited to classical than pop/rock. As I started listending to '80 pop/rock/punk I changed to a set of KEF C40's which were just more fun for the modern stuff but still good for the classical. The Bostons just didn't have that same lively punch.

But for solo/classical guitar, trio jazz and classical the Bostons were absolutely wonderful. I'd LOVE to have a set again.

I guess it may just depend on what you listen to most. :dunno:

A100 is very competent but I don't know how they stack up against NS-5. Way back when, we sold way more A100s than comparably priced Yamaha. Of course, we did have a New England bias.

If you can buy a pair for reasonable money, you should give them a try.

Man thats funny I too had a pr of A100's that I traded for a pair of KEF's although they were the C75. I kept blowing the woofers in my A100's

I have had 100s ,70s, and have 200s. While I liked the 100s I like the midrange in the 200 better. If you can spend a few dollars more and a pair of 150s present themselves I would buy them.
BTW I ran my Bostons with a Sansui 8080 and a G7700. The BA do very well with vintage sansui gear from my perspective.
