Boston Acoustics A100 speakers

I stumbled across a pair of A100's tonight in a thrift store. Surrounds were gone and i actually peeled some of the rubber right there in the store. It fell right off. Anyway, they were actually hooked up to a house receiver and playing (very low thankfully) so i know the tweeters are good. I will replace the surrounds for about $25 and a few hours and the $10 I paid for them will make this a story with a happy ending. I cant wait to hear them.

I have been doing this lately. I will find a decent pair of speakers that need a little love, buy them for only a few $ and fix em up if possible. If you keep your eyes open there are always hidden gems floating around in the shops. If they turn out to be a good call I give them to a worthy recipient, that is, someone who actually "wants" them and will give them a good home and good music. Feeling like the Johnny Appleseed of speakers. I have been building my daughter a vintage system so if these A100's work out she will have solid speakers to listen to.

So, is it possible to replace foam surrounds with rubber or cloth surrounds? Probably a dumb question but i came across a wide variety of surrounds looking at "Filleted Foams". I would think, for the sake of sound quality, one should replace the surrounds with the original material? Just wondering.

I cleaned up / prep'd the 10" drivers tonight. Surrounds should arrive tomorrow or Thursday. Should be a fairly easy job.

I just refoamed a pair of A100's. They sound great. Bright, detailed.... good sound from a pair of speakers that i have $25 total into. Got them for a smile. I think i will pass them on.
