Boston Acoustics A40's vs A40 II's?

MuthaFunk

I was just given a nice pair of Boston Acoustic A40 series II's!! As usual, the foams need to be redone. I've sent GordonW a PM for new surrounds as many before me have been directed here on AK. Are there any other well known sources for the proper foam surrounds?

I was able to find a nice spec. sheet online for the A40 originals. The tweeter is most definitly a different shape on mine but what are the other differences between the original A40s and the series II's? Same frequency response, power handling that I read off the original spec. sheet?????

Thanks for any replies.

Jury is out. Some like series one better, other series two.

I use them both and like them equally- to me, it's splitting hairs betwixt the two.

Tweeters seem the same in basic design, besides mounting plate method. Both sound good.

Woofers are different as one is paper cone, the other, poly cone.

If you cannot get foams from Gordon, PM me for another source.

Have owned both and many more vintage BA's both had virtually no sound diff but if I had to chose it would be 2's

Rick Cobb (looneytune2001) on eBay provided us with foams for our A60's (both series I and II) and T830's. I would go to him.

I seem to prefer the series II A60s we have - flatter response IMO.

(No affiliation with Rick.)

I think AK member GordonW prefers series I. I'm 99% sure of it.

I like both. No real favorite.

Just to throw a monkey wrench into the mix, there's also the A40V, a video shielded version.

I own a pair of those as well.

The later HD5 is the next generation of the A40. I know of a restaurant thY still runs numerous pair in their dining room with original foams.

Thanks for the replies fellas!!

Zilch! Awesome thread links there!!:thmbsp:

GordonW didn't ever get back to me but I was able to order OEM replacements from the contact thedelihaus gave me. Thanks!

:scratch2: I wonder if the OEM replacements are approx. the same vintage as the woofers I have, how is it they haven't deteriorated as well???
