Boston Acoustics A70 Mods

I'm hoping this isn't bad ju ju to post this link here, and let me say I have no affiliation with the seller in any way. I thought the mods done to these A70's was interesting, especially the new grill. It kind of makes sense to show off the Boston Acoustics model label.

Not really modified. Upgraded the caps, re-finished the cabinets and put on new grilles. Sounds like the speakers were a mess when he got them. One tweeter shows evidence of a little damage. In addition, the use of egg crate foam is not the ideal damping material for these speakers. Other materials work better in a sealed system. The guy is dreaming in technicolour in terms of his asking price. For that price one could get a pair of A400s and have change left over.

I don't understand the pics and the description:

Cabinet stripped of old vinyl veneer & sanded smooth; 4 coats of oil stain (chestnut cherry & custom color); 2 coats oil polyurethane; 6 slip coats (50/50 poly & mineral spirits) for furniture like finish.

The pics show a wood-grain to the cabs. Every pair of A-series (40/60/70) had particle board underneath the vinyl veneer, not solid wood. If you peeled the veneer off, sanded, and stained, you wouldn't get wood-grain-like appearance.

I agree that the asking prices is insane. Caps and surrounds are less than $30. I just redid a pair myself.
