My left and right speakers are Boston Acoustics CR6's which are sealed enclosures 2-way speakers that are quite heavy for their size. I'm thinking of upgrading to a pair of Elac Debut 2.0 B5.2 speakers that are rated 6 ohms. My 18 year old Sony av receiver is rated at 100 wps at 8 ohms. Will the Elac speakers work with 100 wps or should I stay with 8 ohm speakers?

The Elacs will work great with that receiver...
2 things:
1) The Boston CR6 is a ported speaker, not sealed. The port is in the back. I just hooked up a set of these at my workshop and was blown away at how BIG they sound for such a small speaker. Like WOW. I have not heard the Elacs, but the CR7 are impressive.
2) Why did you think you need to replace the CR6? What are they lacking? And why do you think the Elac would be any better? They are both small 2-way ported speakers with very simple MDF construction.

I misidentified my speakers I have the CR5's not the CR6's. Recently I moved the speakers down from the 5 and 6 ft high bookshelves. They are now approximately 30 inches from the floor and the sound is significantly better.

I'm using CR6's in my home theater setup and I'm quite content with the performance, but I'm not a big home theater guy mind you.
Thank you for the input. I almost bought a pair directly fron Elac. They had an open box set but no pictures and only a 90 day warranty instead of their usual 3 yr warranty. I walked away.
The speakers are cr5's not as I had incorrectly typed cr6's. The room that I have my sound system is small so I don't need large soeakers and I don't
The room with my sound system is small and provide enough volume. I find them to be too bright but This probably caused by higher frequencies being boosted by my hearing aids. I would like to have more of a sense of presence without high volume and an overkill subwoofer.
