Hello,

Is there any king people from Boston Acoustics or lucky owners of the Lynnfield 500L mkII, kind enough to share the filter shematic of the medium and tweeter in order to refurbish a wasted tweaked purchased second hand, please ?

(I had the great help of a Boston Lynnfield 400L owner here but none from the 500L mkI or mkII... owners that exist... too bad)
 
Only a handful of people that worked at BA would have seen the schematics, and I'm sure they were disposed of with everything else.

I haven't had contact with anyone from Boston in more than a decade, unfortunately. Them going out of business and disappearing completely, tends to do that.

Well there are two or three owners here that said they will shot some pictures of their 500L filters to help on the resistors and caps values and are able to measure I am sure the coils.

A lot of blah, not real wil to enhance their loudspeakers. I played with my 400L and found people here that exchanged, we reverse neginnered the filter; also disciver there were two 400L filters that exited Boston Plants on the treble for that 400L ref.. Too bad the 500L owners are just verbose and certainly know few about technical ! They just are, I know the guys, I now what happened, blah !

I wonder if anyone here has a pair of the 500s… they’re pretty rare…I’ve always got my eye out for them.
 
I have a set of the 500L II, 300L I, and 300L II.

I never got the pics of my buddy and I won't bother him about it either (who was the service manager at the time at ba ) he has a series II as to where I have. A series I , I however solved .my "hot tweeter" issues with just going with a tube amplifier that rolled them off just enough on the top end. It's still a very revealing speaker and by now I am used to it. And they do service in my secondary set up.

You also know and understand, there are not many of them made. So ownership is rather scares on these speakers. I remember reading, that at one point Boston destroyed all of the cabinets for them and trashed them, the 300,400,500l

The 400l was an after thought speaker in the lineup and really didn't sell at all. It's according to my friend the least sold one. And wasn't even at one point on the retail suggested price list. Did replace the woofer surrounds (some don't agree with butylene) mine have been playing stellar with it. And I never have to touch them ever again. So that's a choice I have absolutely no regrets in.

At one point I tried to sell them, there is zero market for them so instead I worked on them. I still want to rebuild the crossovers. But I retain the same values and probably eliminate the bypass caps.

And go all polycap ,so they will spec like new again and retain that spec. Get rid of all the hotsnot too.

I replaced all the cable bridges , I also removed the original little feet of the top cabs. And put sound risers (soft rubber feet) under them. And I installed outriggers on the bass cabs.

I've stopped overthinking that speaker and just enjoyed them for what they are. The series I was Phil Jones all the way as I understood, the series II upper cabs were revoiced by David fokos (who designed the vrm series )

Either way, I have absolutely no need to "improve" them . If push comes to shove you can DSP them rather easy to your liking. Or take a leap and fiddle with it on the crossover end. It's a hard pass for me aside from just a rebuild getting rid of the electrolytic caps.

Edit: Sislane above is that friend haha we known each other for years by now. He has a good few of Lynnfields. We have talked days worth about them by now in private.

Okay you can DSP EQ, end of the problems. (oh it is a filter too, perhaps you missed something ?)

I did enhance my 400L, full complex MKP filter with 0.1 uF precision everywhere. I was very surprised about the difference vs stock. Butyl recaping with lossy chosen ones was okay for the 6.5" and my ears as well.

I ended with some very sligth change on the treble about the atenuatiion and lifting of the first cell.

Too bad we can not talk more technic here0. IMO those are gems not known... I am not surprised at the view of the reactions here one can not sold them (whic is an error according to me). It mostly illustrate a lack of knowledge and curiosity or lazyness, hard to know ! And what saying @Magfinity after two years you say you will help but never did ! Uh....

The mid is stunning as the ligthness and snap of the mid bass when setuped with care.

I was interrested to know how the 500L and 500LII were filtered. Seems no one is really interreested here. Simplier to buy anothers speaker and compare apples with oranges !

And no desire or curiosity either for some to open it and shoot some pictures for helping others or will to understand more but just shake old souvenirs.

You assume way to much here , as I still own and listen to them. I have absolutely no inclination to change the entire design on the crossover end. It seems you did some work to it and enjoy them. I've had them completely apart, the crossovers are cheesy and all I will do is just polycap the entire speaker whenever I feel like it.

Changing values is most definitely something I won't do, there is no need for it.

As far as helping you goes, it was reliant on someone else giving me that info which didn't happen. I have a series I just like you albeit you have a 400l which is a good bit smaller I do assume they share a lot of crossover similarities seen the driver similarities there. I can't turn water into wine, so I left it as is.

And sorry to break it to you , there are tons of better speakers out there than the 400/500l. I moved them to my secondary system. That's called trial and error and using your ears to conclude that.

I don't own a 400l ... But you seem extremely self-centered in all this so I feel it's best I put you on my ignore list hence forward. Seen the fact "we are not nice " and what does Sislane know uh?! He only worked there for a decade the very brand you assume you know so much about.

At least in few posts I was abble to help some here and share my work and 400L shematic. And I am not enough self centered to show my muscles on my id picture, lol !

That pic was taken at work by a colleague for our website. I am wearing work attire as everybody in our company does. You seem extremely insecure, to even make such a laughable statement and calling me "self centered" while DEMANDING stuff from others here.

If that was true, I wouldn't have talked to you at all. I also explained in a previous post I never got the information. And stopped pursuing it, the world doesn't evolve around you.

The only thing it does proof, is that I was right by calling you low-key self-centered. You're most definitely a basket case. And you are hence forward being ignored.

Don't even bother typing out another comment towards me. Enjoy your 400l,.....nobody cares, especially me hence forward. ..

Hi, I just picked up a pair of 400L that need woofer surrounds replaced. Can you tell me what product you used and the source? Also did you use heat to release the dust cover of the double spider? Any tips you can provide will be appreciated! Thanks!
