Boston Acoustics T-830 Speakers

I had some Boston Acoustics T-830s lying around and decided to hook them up to a Carver "The Receiver" and a Marantz CD Player. The end result.....wonderful sound!

I had tried to sell these T-830s a few weeks ago on E-Bay and the guy that bought them told me he was a professional recording engineer and T-830s were the only speakers he would listen to in his studio because they were so "neutral". He also said that whenever T-830s were listed on E-Bay he would buy them and had about 8 sets. A really nice guy. Unfortunately, he wanted me to pack them myself, rather than have them profesionally packed as I had specified in the auction. I told him that I simply didn't have the room in my car to put these in one big box and if he could find a place to pack them cheaper than FedEx, I'd be happy to cooperate. I never heard from him again. So, I guess the T-830s will be staying. Wondering if anyone else has these and what they think of them.

My new favorite Boston Acoustics speakers

I can see why that guy loved the T-830s. I picked up a pair today at the GW, and they sound fantastic. They had the usual BA foam rot, so I swapped the woofers from a pair of series II A-60s I re-foamed, to give them a listen tonight. I have Julian Bream on vinyl playing now, and it sounds like he's here in the room. I have lots of other BA speakers, and have had a pair of T-930s in the past, but these T-830s have to be my favorite pair of Boston Acoustics I've owned. The T-930 had a 10" woofer, and the bass was pretty boomy. Not so with the 8" in the 830s. They have a very balanced sound, and have that terrific 1" dome tweeter that I love the sound of. They have a nice looking rosewood vinyl on the cabs, which matches the plynth of my Yamaha YP-D71 very well. My wife even noticed how nice these sound, which says a lot, 'cause she usually can't tell any diffference when I swap around speakers. These are keepers, and have moved the KLH 17s to the closet for now. I had just picked up a second pair of the 17s over the weekend, and was going to try stacking them, but that's now on hold...

Gave a pair of T-830 to my brother a while back. I thought they came very close to the sound of my A-150 and I listened to them a lot while I had them. He loves how they sound and especially that they can handle some volume as he uses them to listen to CDs while he plays along on his drums.

Great acquisition. Enjoy!!!
