Boston Acoustics vr940

Hi,
I'm new to Audiokarma. I just traded a pair of Boston Acoustics A70's for a pair of Boston Acoustics vr940 towers for my den. The vr940's are ported on the bottom and did not come with spikes, etc. My question is should I find spikes for the carpet or set them on a solid surface like wood or tile to give the best sound possible. They are hooked up to a Yamaha RX-750 receiver and sound great right now. I just wonder if I can enhance their sound even more.

In general, spikes are useful. Anything that keeps the speaker still so the only energy is that from the cone is beneficial.

There is also a safety aspect. On carpet the VR940 is tall enough to be a bit tippy and spikes will help with that if pushed down into the subfloor.

Reviving an old thread. Just found a pair of these locally for 50 bucks. Reviews looked good online so I went and snatched them up. Not a fan of the "sock" style grill. These particular socks aren't in the best of shape. But man do these speakers sing. These are my first towers and first Boston acoustics. There's another set of t830 towers near me for 80. How do these compare? Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Just picked up a pair for $15! They sound great. Hate the sock. Might remove them completely.

They sound amazing. Ruler flat treble with liveliness and a fair bit of neutrality.
