Bottlehead Upgrade Price?

Buying, selling... mainly buying

Hello all,

I saw something on the Bottlehead website and I just want some clarification.

There is an upgrade to many of the Bottlehead kits that states:

"Upgrade from the standard black molded IEC power cord to the Bottlehead Power Cord Kit (for 120VAC mains only) and save $5 over the regular price $79.00"

No where that I have found on the Bottlehead site does it go into any detail about this power cord.

Keep in mind I am truly trying to understand here, not be a smart-ass. The question is, what makes something seemingly as simple and pedestrian as a power cord worth and extra $79? I understand that some materials are pretty exotic and can be costly. Is that what we are looking at here or is it mostly the Bottlehead name or a mixture of the two?

Thanks

The power cord kits are listed separately under the Parts category. Doc B explains there what the deal is with the power cords and what sonic improvement they bring.

Thanks marantzfan.

I found it on the site and read. Interesting - and I like their honesty :

"I will simply state that I find that it makes our gear sound better than the stock power cord and leave it at that."

I've met Doc B and have been to "Bottleheadquarters" on Bainbridge Island and I can tell you that he is a no bullshit kind of guy. Very down to earth, easy to talk to and VERY knowledgeable.

I have built six different Bottlehead kits now and would recommend their products to anyone that wants to try a kit build. In fact, one of the next things on my agenda is to buy 4 of those power cords to upgrade my system.

I am very pleased with my Bottlehead Foreplay II. Just amazes me how simple that preamp is, yet sounds so great. Mine is bone stock and am really wanting to do some of the upgrades.

I have the Bottlehead Paramounts (300B), the Stereomour (2A3) as well as the Crack OTL headphone amp. I am using the stock cords.

Considering what is coming out of the wall on the local grid, i still cannot wrap my head around a power cord fix that supposedly cures something when what is coming out of the grid is so much crap.

sign me skeptical

I have the power cord and use it on my SEX 2.0 and 2.1 amplifiers, to me it does make a difference. The highs are cleaner and bass has more detail. I was very surprised by the difference.

If the stock power cord is of sufficient guage with low resistance, I couldn't imagine any difference in sound possible with some exotic power cable.
