Bottom-Feeder 'Phones - The Cheaphone Thread

I don't know if these qualify for this category but I just got a pair of Sony MDR-XB550AP's yesterday. $39.39 on Amazon. Right now I'm listening to some Brother's Johnson and Kool & the Gang and loving it. From my Samsung G7 Edge through a USB adapter to one of those cheapie mini USB DAC's. I haven't checked but I think the phone's EQ is tweaked a bit. I let them run overnight playing hiss on the FM radio band so I really don't have an opinion on how they sound right out of the box but here goes. I like bass but they're not overwhelming and the midrange is coming through pretty well as well. Treble is there too. Not ear piercing but nice and since these 64 year old ears aren't hearing the extreme top end if it's there I'm not missing it anyway. I realize this all is dependent on the source but right now I'm just scrolling through song and I'm not disappointed :) I've got a DAC/headphone amp coming this week so I'm anxious to hear what that brings :music:

After reading all the posts on this string and reading and watching a number of reviews on YouTube, I bought a Douk Audio U3 head phone amplifier and hooked it up to my Yamaha WMC-50 streamer. Then I ordered the Oneodio Pro-30 and Status CB-1 headphones, which seemed to be most interesting of these lower cost phones to me (I was previously familiar with Koss). I wanted to try some inexpensive fun.
After extended listening, I determined that the Onodios were marginally more comfortable. While both were pure plastic, the Status seemed better built.
As to sound, the Oneodios had what seemed to me an unnatural bump in the mid-bass. The Status phones were flatter, more natural and more extended to my 75 year old ears. I returned the Oneodios and am enjoying the CB-1s.
 
I just got a pair of OneODIO Pro-10's today. I got them lightly used off eBay for like $30. Build quality seems good. Closed back. Headband well padded. Over ear with soft cushions. Sounds pretty flat to me. Advertised for studio work. BUT, they are ear heaters as many closed back cans are. The upside is they block a lot of outside noise. So, if you are going to be wearing them for hours the downside is your ears will get warm ...

Sound is neutral. Piano and vocals come through very nicely. Bass is a bit pulled back compared to my Sennheiser Massdrop HD6XX. But to be fair, nothing much in the way of inexpensive cans can keep up with those. Treble is not harsh and seems to be balanced. No sibilance observed so far. Volume is fine. They can get loud driven by the A-10 Classic.

I think these qualify " Cheap Headphones" ... :rflmao:
