I'm with you 100% on that! My Mk2 and Mk5 are both stock and I'm leaving them that way!! If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!!

I'd give an arm and a leg for a 1200 in that condition. I've said it before, but there's something about its styling that just does it for me, and that picture demonstrates it well. Maybe it's the way it's proportioned...

Hi guys, I just bought 3 NOS D50e MKII styli for my Stanton 500 MKII cartridge.
I read that these are the best ellipticals for Stanton 500 MKII carts and extremely rare nowadays.
I was looking to replace my Stanton 500 MKII cartridge with something newer, but Ive read that these old skool Stanton 500 carts are pretty nice sounding as they are ! Replacing the spherical stylus it has with an elliptical will make my 500 near 'audiophile' quality. :)

Specs look decent on these stylus as well.

Oh, FuggetAboutIt Dude....Get a Stanton 681EEE S Cart...That's all that you'll ever Need...
But, with all those 500's...See if you can find a D71-2E Stylus for them...If not, PM me...Mine is just sitting here...I'll never be using It...

If it is 1986 then you may need to replace electrolitycs in the next few years. The main PS filter cap may be increased from 470uF to something between 1000uF and 2200uF. Also rectifying bridge can be replaced with one more powerful.

Another mode is to remove the original transformer and replace it with a 160VA one in a separate box. That makes a notable difference if you were to use MC cartridges. It makes a tiny difference with MM cartridges as well. Arm may also benefit a little from damping.

Remember to lubricate its bearing.

I got my sl1210 from this century but not in such a perfect condition so I also replaced the old bearing with a new one and damped it a bit.

Can you explain why I would need to increase the PS Filter cap and 160vA transformer ?

The story goes, the guy who sold it to me works for a local electronics shop.
He got the turntable from a local Church, which they didnt need any longer.
The table hasnt been hardly used - I guess they only used it for special occasions or on any given Sunday.. LoL. :D
Anyways, from the serial number, it looks to be made in 1986.
Like I said this thing is near mint ! I would rank it a 9/10. It has some very minot scratches on the dust cover probably from wiping dust off of it. The table has no nicks anywhere !
It came with an old skool Stanton 500 MKII cartridge.

I wish that I could resist leaving my 1200 all original.The first thing that I did was rewire the tone arm.You could always add a fluid damper,which is reversible.
