Bought a monster Sony

I've always wanted the Sony STR-GX10ES. Last of the monster stereo receivers. This is number 802160. Looks to be about a 9/10 appearance. Very few blemishes and clean. Haven't cracked it open yet. Will soon and check bias. She runs rather hot, I'm guessing the psuedo class A that was popular back then.

Have a Sony DVP-S7700 DVD player with copper chassis too. JVC turntable and Wharfedale Diamond 10.2's. I hesitate to replace Wharfedale speakers, I like their sound.

I don't know why I bought the Sony. I have a Pioneer Elite SX-A9-J receiver that is 55wpc dual monitor construction. Very well made but boring to look at.

You added 100 watts. The Sony is rated at 150 per channel.

Congrats. One of my favorite looking receives from the 80's. Looks are pure class especially when paired with a rosewood sided CDP like the CDP-X55ES, CDP-X77ES, CDP-X707ES, and others. I've owned three examples over the years. Also had the virtually identical STR-GX9ES. All of the ran on the hot side and most of them had main filters with bulging tops. Could be a by-product of the dual rail design indicated by the size difference of the main filter caps. IIRC, cohibajoe spent some time re-capping his. Don't know if it cured the heat. Anyways, all of them are gone now.

I'll be checking bias shortly. I'll have to see how the Sony compares to the Pioneer.
