Bought my first flip clock!

RW, when you get ready to go really old school, buy a pocket watch.

These 2 belonged to my grandfather, the first one needs to be repaired, the minute hand broke off. Otherwise they work.

This is my daily driver that I always carry. Kinda cheating since it is only 39 years old and uses a battery. But it was a wedding present from my father-in-law.

:beerchug:,
James
Given to my mom's grandmother on Christmas Day, 1887.

Now in the possession of my dear 1+ year old granddaughter. (the fob is her birthstone).

Elgin - keeps perfect time.

Just found another "flip" clock at a brand new GW built near where I used to live, for only $4! This time a GE - only slightly fancier than the Sun Valley in that it has an alarm function (though I haven't bothered to test that). So far the clock works perfect. It keeps time perfectly and has a nice orange monochrome neon bulb.

This one is actually silent (unlike the sun valley which makes a constant ticking noise), and again unlike the sun valley, it doesn't smell like burning chemicals and outgassing plastic.

Hi Wolfie, Nice clock and I'm glad your happy with it :thumbsup:

Now, not to be nit picking or play "know it all", I would like to help expand your knowledge of exactly what you've got there.

That is not a "flip clock" as per the lingo of clock collectors, it's a "rolling number clock", which it an entirely different species VS a true "flip clock".

Here is a link to a clock collector's site that perfectly explains the difference;

PS, I happen to have an affinity for all types of clocks, and want you to know & enjoy the different types for the love of collecting these wonderful timepieces :cool:

That's why I put "flip" in quotes, since it technically kind-of is a flip clock, but not in the traditional sense. The numbers flip in the back of the clock mechanism where you can't see them. In the front it looks like any ordinary "rolling numbers" clock.

Here's a review on functionally the same clock as mine.

I had always thought these type of clocks were invented in the 1970’s but this one (not a flip, but a rotating number) dates from 1939-40. It’s electric and still keeps time perfectly (as long as the power stays on).
