Thanks goes out to DrBiggles and homebrew for their suggestions, I was able to complete my Bozak B-800 speakers. All I can say is WOW!
As All-Range drivers, I felt that the speakers lacked clarity and high-end, so I built and incorporated 2 way crossovers consisting of a 0.60 mH inductor and a 10K capacitor, along with dirt cheap tweeters I found on ebay - rated at 1500-20000 at 8 ohms. The crossovers cross over at 2000. What a huge and dramatic difference!!!
I have run multiple frequency tests from various sources on YouTube, surprisingly they have yielded the same results with no variation. As an older person, the highest frequency that I can hear is roughly 13,500. A friend was able to hear up to about 17,000.
The Bozak B-800A is supposedly rated down to about 100 hz. What puzzles me is that with all of the tests that I have run, I am consistently able to hear tones all the way down to about 20 hz. Which leads me to some questions:
1. How is this driver able to produce tones down to 20 hz if it is only "rated" at 100 hz?
2. Though I am able to hear low tones down to 20 hz, they are not as balanced (loud) as the mid-range and high frequencies. Is there any way that I can modify the crossover to boost the volume of the low end without affecting the mid and high end? I am able to hear instruments such as an upright bass, lowest notes of a grand piano, timpani, etc., but the vocals in the midrange seem to be drowning them out. I don't have the funds or desire to obtain equalizers or such and would prefer to tinker with the crossover, if that is possible???
Amplification consists of a Van Alstine 100 wpc transistor amp and a Van Alstine Hybrid-tube preamp.
