Bozak Orphan?

Well, I drove up to Justen's yesterday and picked up this POS from ozmoid (macaltec was a no-show, BTW). This morning I began dissecting it. Very interesting design, but anyway. The only thing I had to destroy in the process was the spider. I have managed to re-shape the cone into something that looks useable (but it ain't pretty). The rubber surround is still intact and voice coil looks/checks okay after a bit of dicking with it to make it round again. So far this looks doable.

So I need to find a spider. It's flat. The v/c diameter is 1-1/2". The spider O.D. should between 5-3/4 & 6-1/8". And the overall thickness of the ribbed section is about 1/16". If anyone can point me to a source, I'd be much obliged.

I may be able to post some pics later today.
 
Well.....

I got the new spider (generic, courtesy of ozmoid and MAT) trimmed to fit. Epoxied it to the coil, then everything to the basket. So far so good, I think.

The surround glue is setting up now. Gorilla Glue takes for-fecking-ever to dry :sigh: .

Once the surround glue set up, I started thinking about soldering the tinsel leads back to the terminals (which are riveted to one each of two adjacent basket "legs"). Well, I got to looking, and my dumb ass managed to re-install the cone 90 degrees from where it should have been. I was careful to center the leads between the two legs, but it was the wrong two legs. (Something about that sentence makes me smile, BTW. :D ) Now I've got to re-locate the fecking terminals.

I'm not a happy camper.


Oh, on the bright side, the voice coil doesn't seem to rub when I cycle the cone by hand. Least I did something right. :rolleyes:
 
Well I've never done that -- not because I haven't managed to make practically every mistake possible at one time or another, but simply because I've always cut and then reused the spider, which means that getting the spider to fit means the orientation takes care of itself. I'm more prone to things like refoaming dead woofers...
 
OK Mark, I'm impressed as heck that you got this far. That thing wasn't just dead, it was dead and MANGLED. Next thing you know, we'll all be calling you Dr. Markenstein.
