Bozak speaker help

Can't find Bozak speakers with walnut fronts on speakers, made extremely well, sound awsome very heavy. Bought them at thrift store for $40 for the pair I did not know what they were until I removed the back. Imagine my surprise when I saw Bozak on speaker and cloth baffles inside cabinets, any help greatly appreciated. Thanks

We need photos of the crossover components too.

Pull all the drivers to see if that woofer has tweeters out front what is probably a mid driver in the hump in the front left corner.

Thanks

Eric

Back in the day speaker kits were available for insertion into locally built cabinets (by the cabinet manufacturers). Barzilay was a furniture manufacturer located in Southern California. They manufactured a variety of mid-century modern stereo consoles. It looks like you have two speakers from such a console. If you search (online) you might find a picture of the entire set. (actually, go back to the thrift store, they might have it.) A full set usually has an online asking price of a few thousand dollars. Though, I don't know if they actually sell for that. Typically the speakers were paired with high quality components.

Here is a CL listing of a similar speaker ( https://cleveland.craigslist.org/ele/d/utica-pair-of-vintage-barzilay-speaker/7422328512.html )

So, you stumbled on a gem. Barzilay's work is well regarded. As an aside, the owner of Barzilay was a child actor in 'Our Gang".

There are a number of posts on AK about Barzilay ( https://audiokarma.org/forums/index.php?threads/whatever-happened-to-barzilay.172837/ )

As saltwater pointed out, it looks like the components are Bozak 302a. I have two sets of these, one in a Bozak cabinet and one Bozak in a cabinet of a local manufacturer. Your woofer has a small metal box attached, this is typically for the tweeter, mounted across the front of the woofer.

Enjoy!

You need at least 5 cu ft for the best performance from the woofer. Though I prefer 8 cu ft so you can add second woofer in the future to reach down into the lower 30's with the right help from room gain. Join one of Bozak Groups on the internet. Te Face book group is good. Ken Seager is great with Bozak. One of the Bozak engineers Bob Betts contributes to the site also. He also has a Bozak Website with some great hints. One is to lower the crossover freq to 400 HZ like the larger units. He also explains the hook up of the midrange in the three way systems.
