Bozak Symphony II's

Found a pair of Symphony II's locally and appear to be in very nice shape. Does anyone know anything about these? Apparently a Connecticut company bought the Bozak name and built these in the early 90's. Not much information available on the net. Thanks

Yes when Bozak closed it's doors in the 80's a company local to me bought their remaining stock and went into business for a short time.
The Symphony II is a 3 way (dual 10's, 12'' passive, 2 mids and tweeter) 6 ohm 130lb speaker. Sensitivity is 92db. They were one step down from the concert grands and retailed for $2400 a pair. Hope this helps

It does help. Would you have an opinion about them? I found a pair for $ 700.00 locally.

I've never heard them and I'm just passing on the info I have about them. They seem to be well built and spec out ok. They're listed as going down to 31hz. They're pretty good sized speakers at 43h 25w 15d.
I'm thinking his price is fairly optimistic as there isn't much of market for big speakers like that. Give them a listen if you can and let your ears decide.

I have some of their info but it was on a computer that crashed and might be difficult to dig up. They are good speakers, and they have some of the large scale quality that vintage Bozaks do, but with much less panel resonance (the front baffle is something like two inches thick and the rear of the enclosure is actually a sonotube cut in half and built (with sound absorbing foam) into the external enclosure. The drivers and crossover components are excellent quality. Vifa and Seas and Peerless? I think.
I found the pair I have to be a rather difficult load for for some amplifiers -- a Toshiba integrated just couldn't handle them. Their looks are not met with universal approval -- to my suprise the WAF was low in this house, so out they went to the shed. (Not sure the ESS Transtatics that replaced them were any lovelier, but they are so freaking heavy they are staying in place until someone takes them away.)
I think that the asking price may be significantly higher than is realistic. Whatever their audio qualities, they suffer from the disdain of 'real Bozak' lovers and the blank unknowingness of any other potential buyers. For that kind of money you can get some nice vintage Bozaks, and be able to get your money more or less back again if you decide to sell. Not likely with this pair.
PM me if you want me to look around for more info.

I appreciate your helpful information. It sounds like that they are a fairly unknown commodity with the exception of Bozak fans. I think I'll take a ride to listen, however if I don't fall in love with them I'll probably pass. I really don't want another pair of enormous speakers, particularly if they fall out of favor and I end up stuck with them. Thank you.
