I know a lot of people don't care for the BPC-era stuff but I saw a post a while back about how great some of black HT receivers were and found myself nodding.
Extending that, I have a 1996(?) Technics SA-EX510 and it sounds great. It is not as heavy as the old class A receivers (it is a "class H"), but it has specs that are among the best I've seen - 120 wpc RMS x2 to 8 ohms @.05% THD, just for starters. I am assuming the FTC guidelines make the Matsushita test results reliable. I once got it to set off protection with a 30 Hz sine wave with volume at 2 o'clock, but otherwise it has never malfunctioned.
It is pretty ugly. But what else, if anything, am I missing? Spec sheet attached:
