i have been enjoying my Beyerdynamic dt700's for some time now, i have been trying different cables mainly
microphone cables and the phones sounded very nice.
i took an idea from Kimber cables and braided 3 wires using 3 strands from Mogami w2534 quad mic cable and
am quite pleased with the results.
To me the voices seem to be a bit more real and the instruments have more definition even the sound stage
appears wider . i am hoping this is not my imagination but a step closer to better headphone performance.
my hope is others will try this cheap experiment and see if they have similar results.
let us know if you have similar experiences.

The drivers are what they are; they can't perform better, regardless of what cables you throw at them. A noticeable change might be heard with new earpads as to restore the "original sound", better said, the distance to your ears. The aftermarket ones, as well as the covers, can also alter the sound, though the performance of the drivers remains unchanged.

Press the cans to your ears, or pull them away slightly to reduce pressure, and take notice - "positioning a speaker/the listening spot" is what alters the sound reaching your ears.

DT770/880/990, and the PRO versions of them, share the same drivers; they differ in cans, damping and the headband strenght.

If you want better performance, get better headphones.

Not with headphones, but I have experienced similar results with different speaker cables.
