Brain teaser!

"Vifa soft dome tweeter, a metal cone tweeter from the Bozak days, a Bozak Pie Plate 6.5" woofer/midrange sort of thing, and the 12" wool/paper woofer" - quoting a former NEAR designer/engineer.

Huh. That looks more like a Peerless (or the clone of it, made by Pioneer) tweeter. That same tweeter was used in some later KLH and Polk models, in the early 1990s. That flange style (with the three bolts holding the magnet on), the very slight horn-load, and the three-point phase shield, plus the patterned surround (ribbed surround) around the dome are dead giveaways of that model.

Of course, I guess you could say, that since the Tymphany merger, Peerless and Vifa are the same thing anyway... but back then, it should have been a Peerless...

Regards,
Gordon.

You are probably quite correct, Gordon. I imagine he was just using the modern equivalent name out of familiarity with that now.

I have sent an email to Pat Tobin who I hope is still around and active. Perhaps he can throw some light and some specifications my way.

I have also signed up for the Bozak group so if they let me in I might find some answers there.

Sure
