Brand spanking new with a dead 9090

Greetings all:
First off I am not a technical guy but a vintage stereo and classic rock lover. I bought an old Kenwood at a garage sale and I love it. I finally decided I would treat myself to a top shelf vintage receiver. Looked at several. Found a Sansui 9090(not the db) on craigslist. Drove 3 hours to Spring Lake NJ, a very affluent area. The 70ish original owner lived in a multi million dollar mansion. He was moving overseas as his wife had just passed. He demoed everything. Everything worked perfectly and sounded great. There is not a scratch anywhere on this unit. He gently unhooks everything. I pay him 700(a good deal I thought). I carry it to the car and gently place it on a blanket on the back seat. The next day I hook up an FM antenna and two working speakers(from my Kenwood)-All lights and dials work(except power ones dont move). Nothing. No sound AM, FM, Hooked up a cd player to aux-nothing- phono-nothing-A, B, A &B, A&C speakers-nothing. pressed every bottom-cannot get any sound, static nothing. Could the amp have blown? Too coincidental I think. I'm not a techy but not an idiot either-----HELP

Welcome to AK! I believe you have already checked that the tape play switch is at the source and the Dolby NR adaptor push switch is off. If that's the case with no sound you can do a quick check to diagnose where the problem is. Take out the Pre-out and Main in jumper at the back. Connect your phone directly to Main in through rca cable. Before switch on the receiver make sure the volume of your phone is minimum. After that switch on the receiver and gradually increase the volume of your phone and check whether you have sound or not.
 
First put speaker selector switch to off position. Push the power button and the power light next to the button should blink red then after 10 seconds it should go solid green? Does it go solid green?

Yes that but I'm wondering about the all important protection relay click. If that's working most likely pilot error but one never knows without looking.

No pre out main in jumpers are on the back-maybe he accidentally disconnected them before I carried it away.
 
I think I just lost my hearing- Great sounding piece. My son is screaming at me to put it lower but that's ok because I can't hear him- THANK YOU-THANK YOU-THANK YOU- I put rca cables pre out-main in works like a charm- He must have unplugged them when he disconnected his equipment. Will buy some off ebay- Thank you again-never would have figured it out by myself
