Brass?

I am at www.radioshackcatalogs.com looking at their speakers and on a couple of models I noticed brass??? voice coil....besides RS did anyone else do this? and why would you?. I picked up a pair of Optimus 5B mint a few days back so far I will say they sound polite but I need to play with height and placement more.

Not uncommon. Formers have been made from a variety of materials. I think the more common, nowadays, is Kapton. But that's not to say most or all.
