Breaking in Sennheiser HD650

Just got a new pair of Sennheiser HD650 headphones and I would like suggestions for the best process for breaking them in properly.

Grab a beer, a seat and you're favourite disc and get comfortable... You're going to be there awhile! Enjoy the changes as they mature - you have to be there to experience it!

Also - find a good signal generator for your computer and fire up the pink noise and plug 'em in.

I have owned three different pairs of HD650's and they are one of the phones that really require decent amplification. You just won't know what you are missing if you plug them into your computer or ipod. The good news is they will sound pretty damn good plugged into a vintage receiver headphone jack as these were powered from the amp itself. Tell us your impressions!

Imo/e just about any full sized (or portable) headphone/IEM, etc. will benefit from good amplification, even the ones that sound good unamped--they only will sound better amped. :yes:

And yea, just plug them in and play moderate volume level music through them (whether you're listening to them or not). I don't think there is any possible way to hurt a new pair of cans besides over-driving them at high volumes.

run it at 2500 rpm's for 10 minutes, then 3000 rpm's for 5 minutes, and change the oil afterwards,

The HD-650 is extremely power hungry... what amp do you have for it? : )

Just got a new pair of Sennheiser HD650 headphones and I would like suggestions for the best process for breaking them in properly.

I might have gotten a little carried away when I broke in my Grado RS-2i headphones. I left them on at slighter louder than normal listening volume while I was at work. I used classical, rock and rap FM stations. I figure it would cover most frequencies. I also looped pink noise on my iPod. After 100 hours, there was a big difference, worked out very nicely.

For better results use a headphone amp or a computer soundcard with integrated amp and listen music! Dont goo too loud with them, just use a pleasant volume.
