What's the Grado equivalent to the Senn HD650?

I was a fan of the Sennheiser HD518's, with plans to upgrade to the HD650's.
But I sold my HD518's whenI got a cheap pair of Grado SR80i's.
I really like the SR80i's, much more so than the HD518's, but now I'm looking to upgrade.

So now I am looking for the Grado equivalent of the Sennheiser HD650.

Any thoughts?

RS1s? A friend has a pair. I like my LCD-2s better, but not by much, and the Grados cost about half.
 
I have had a chance to listen to the RS2s and they're everything I would want in a headphone at that price point minus the whole around ear thing. I would give those a shot honestly. The closest the equivalent in price in the US anyway.

Mostly because I find my dirt cheap Grado SR80i's more engaging than the lower level Sennheisers.

So I am figuring that Grado sound must be more my thing than the Sennheiser sound.

I have tried the HD650's but only in passing at B&H in Manhattan, although they sounded pretty damn fine, they engaged me less than the SR80i's.

Either the RS1's or RS2's are looking mighty appealing at this stage.

I have tried tried the AKG Q701's and I enjoyed them a lot but I think they also lacked the outright slam that the Grado's seem to have.
 
I own several pairs of cans but I always, without fail go back to my RS1is, I also bought a pair of G cush pads which are around the ear and to my ears deliver a bigger soundstage.

I briefly heard both and the RS1i is brighter than the RS2i imo.

The 701/702's are a more analytical can that has deep bass, but not much low mid bass like Grados so it can seem thin in comparison. Grados make more "exciting" cans.

I have the 325i and enjoy them very much. To me they were much more preferable the even the best Sennheisers.
 
The RS1 is most likely the closest.

When I was in the market for cans I tested the 325i and the 225i. Neither did it for me. Seemed cold and too far forward. The real deal breaker was that they were just uncomfortable. I took a gamble on the Sennheiser HD600 and haven't looked back since. Absolutely love them.
 
Grado and Sennheiser sound so very different from each other it's hard to think someone can like both. Each have their signature sound and it's totally a matter of personal preference. I will admit to comfort being an issue with Grado, but there are things you can do if you like the sound.
