Does anyone else chase this Arcam stuff? Any horror stories?or good news?

I have recently fallen in love with old Arcam gear. At present I use a Arcam FMJ CD33 no mods. Original MSRP was 3499.00 I got one for less than 500.00 on ebay 2 years ago works great minus the remote and this thing kicks ass clear, open and oh so detailed. I say it is equal to or better than my older Levinson #39 patched through Levinson #380's series pre and then bi-amped with Proceed amp 2's into Sonus Faber Guinari Homage with a original REL storm sub to lift the bottom end. All purchased in 1999. I'll never have cash like that again but for pure sound will not need it. That system set me back $24,000.00 I run the present Arcam unit through a simple rebuilt complete recap Marantz 1060 and a pair of home built speakers I finally assembled in 2017 all Scan Speak and xovers made by Madisound in 2008 Mondorf silver supreme caps and litz wound cores all high end stuff but for 1600.00 complete build with the cabinets by a guy named Taylor cabinets. Madisound uses him still. All Scan Speak- tweeters are 2905/9900 large face revelators and drivers are the 18W/8531G-00 clear and flat approx 85db sensitivity f3 about 38hz and crisp n' clean at the top out to 20khz. For a 2 way setup,no sub, they rock. Every time anyone stops by the first thing they say is dude for a system that looks like junk. Big dent in the side of the Arcam cd33 from shipping. I almost died when I saw it. I use a Technics SL-D2 derect drive unit, rebuilt,no cover,cork pad with a weight and a 400.00 Cartrige and stylus. The complete set up less than 2500.00 They always want to listen to one thing or another. Also have Arcam Alpha 8 and 3 Arcam CD72,73 Divas all ebay finds. 8 pair of speakers in the works SB Acoustoics components and many recapped amps,reciever units backing up in my appartment. Just picked up Levinson #37 any ideas on a good dac for this not #36 looking for basic cost and effect . These Arcam units are real quality equipment. Live long and listen RichieD

My only Arcam piece is a Delta 60 amp, which I have owned for twenty years. It gave me fits for a long time, and I used it for a phono pre until I replaced the gain pot with a more modern unit. Now it really sings!

Thanks for the welcome and a High End Scrounger am I. All 70's equipment. Not overly concerned with horse power just good solid build with a sound that has it's own following. That 70's sound. Poorly designed speaker cabinets resulting in over bassed, echoy, cavernous sounding empty boxes that looked impressive on the outside. Fine behaved loud speakers. The one aspect that we have moved foward in by leaps and bounds. Oh, and digital format music storage and retrieval. I don't have kids but my friends do and its like they all just woke up. Most never heard a good system other than headphones and ipod or spotify or other rental source for program selection. Now they are realizing at the end of the day their paying out to listen but have nothing to show for the money they spent. Now its back to LP and Cd collecting. They will be pressing out recordings again by the millions.
