i almost did an edit of my post just to include The Animals, they sure helped inspire the Garage scene here in the USA.
 
I'd put the Zombies ahead of all of 'em, if it were up to me. But it's not, so they're my 4th, with the Kinks close behind.
 
The Kinks and The Animals produced some blisteringly sensitive memorable songs..I can't chose between the two.
 
I'd go Yardbirds, and Kinks, then Zombies... just an opinion. I like them all.

There's a great deal of wonderful (not necessiarly great) music that's almost forgotten.

The Kinks are so very English.

After the Stones, my favorite Brit band as a kid. In fact, I owned a Kinks LP way before the Stones. Still have it (Kink's Greatest).

"Something Else" grows on me to this day.

Pop, or the old Top 40, would probably give the nod to Herman's Hermits or the Dave Clark Five :yes:
 
For body of work, I'd have to say The Kinks. But a few weeks back I heard Andrew Loog (on Little Steven's Underground Garage) say, "at the height of Beatlemania, when the Beatles looked in their rear view mirror, it wasn't the Stones they saw. It was The Dave Clark Five."
 
Hmmmm...from the 60's. My top four is as follows:

The Who
The Pretty Things
The Rolling Stones
The Nice

It is hard to pick four. I guess The Nice might technically be post British Invasion and would be in there with psychedalia and the roots of progressive rock. If the Nice are disqualified, I choose their Immediate Records label mates the Small Faces.

Harkening back to my days in front of the TV watching Shindig and Hullabaloo, I think you're right about The Dave Clark Five.

That said, put me in the Kinks column.:smoke:
