Brought home some more big jbls...

Rex Aeterna

Gigolo of Gigolos
  • Today I picked up some bins from an awesome guy. Had 4 bass bins for me. 3 jbl 4648 and 1 jbl 4645. Two bins have one loaded jbl 2225h woofer while other chamber empty(gonna put maybe 921-8a or jbl 2226j in for now) and one jbl bass bin has two loaded black replacement woofers he wasn't sure of. The 4645 was the real winner loaded with 1 jbl 2245h.
To my surprise though they all had the jbl crossover boxes on them. Was really happy and worked out for me since II needed 800hz crossovers. Right now on back porch for testing. Plan on cleaning them up a bit and hooking them up in my room after cleaning and restuffing. I just mounted 511b horn with 808b drivers on top of the 4648 bins for testing purposes. Plan on properly mounting them on the bins later. Just need a break from lugging them around and then I have carry them up flight of steps later lol. Ohh well. Need a work out anyways. Been lazy all winter so far. But really happy I got these.

Paid only 250 for everything so I think I got heck of a deal. Only have one pic so far. Just when was testing out back. Need to finish up after break.

When my house starts shaking I'll know what it is, thanks for the heads up.......

Nice score, enjoy

I should add a correction above. Looked at crossovers network. Its a 3160 network box with a 500hz crossover point.

I downloaded PDF file bit, does not explain at what frequency the HF attenuation is at. For now keeping it at 0. Sounded fine at 0 anyways.

The 4645 with the 2245H will be a nice addition, goes down pretty low. Did the PO blow some of the woofers in the others?

they were yanked out of an old theater. he got them that way. he did tell me he did put the 2225h's himself in since they both had some ev replacement woofers in that he wanted to keep. i dont mind thay since i love lot of jbl woofers.

still working on them. one woofer gave me an issue taking it out so, had to carefully hammer flat head screw driver underneath and yank it out so, can properly stuff the cabs.

i loaded 2226j's on bottom for now that i have. crossover is at 500hz anyways as well with the large 3160 crossover box so, both 2225 and 2226 give off bout same reponse there from far as i remember seeing on a fr graph.

will be mounting 511b horns with 808-8b drivers on top as well. some say the 511 dont play nice at 500hz but, to me doing quick test yesterday outside they sounded actually surprisenly really good. will have them in a treated room after done.

gonna use the 4645 as a sub for now as well. that did surprise too yesturday. playing with it, for one driver it hit pretty hard and deep rattling the metel covers above the door and had not even cranked up high but, will use precaution driving it cause itll be ran by a crown xti 4002 which is 2400w 8ohms bridged. but, instead, i might run it parallel with the 4648 bins since the 3160 has another LF hook up and to give the 4645 bit extra power handling. just gonna give small eq at 20hz with about 3-6db increase using peq of the crown. cause dont want to over driver or over excurt it since read the 2245 is pretty senstive driver if ran past its limits and since the 2245h is pretty much hard to find anymore and immaculate condition as well makes me want to take super extra precaution.

How does the foam surround look on that 2245? I know alot of the ones I have seen are either shot or have been replaced with cloth accordion.
That is a nice woofer btw. I have a pair of 2242 that were reconed to 2245 specs and they are awesome;)

foam surprisenly really great shape. no sign of rotting or flaking. actually pulled it out of cab and surprisenly it came from a theater that was like 10 minutes to me. didnt even knew there was a theater in pennsauken lol. restuffed cabs earlier and got it in my room finally. it is an awesome woofer.
