Bryston 2B amp s/n 2387. Anybody give me the lowdown on this amp? Previous owner states it works but you hear pops and crackles. Too nice an amp to be fooling with myself (I am eager to learn about repairing amps)? Anyone have a s/n database to give an idea of age? 20 years is cutoff for Bryston warranty I believe. Newbie questions for certain, but what the heck, there is a lot of knowledge here, I'd like to learn more.

Also, might someone be so kind as to point me toward a service manual for this Bryston 2B posted in pdf perhaps?

well the schematic is on bryston's site. Since they say the 2B-LP is the replacement unit and its schematic is dated 96, you might contact bryston for the manufacture date for your unit, you could get lucky.
 
Hi,

Write or call Bryston! You might get the instructions to send it in for a refurbishing free. These folks are very good about that.
 
I emailed Bryston, they asked me to call them and speak. Amp is definitely older than 20 years, so I'm not hoping for a free fixit. Thanks for all your help!
 
from everything i've heard...even if they don't do it for free,there would be no better place to send it too than bryston...they don't just fix and return,but will go through the thing with a fine tooth comb,the stories of amps going in for minor repairs and coming back not only fixed but often upgraded to better than new are legion...thier quality of service is almost legendary,of course out of warranty may be a bit different with regard to cost..but still it can't hurt to at least call and talk with them
 
Cool, seeing as how I am a bit new to this game, any input is helpful for me. As soon as I figure out why my Ampex AG 440 is blowing a fuse, I'll move on to the Bryston and get that fixed. I also have a Dynaco Stereo 120 I haven't even plugged in yet.

Well, in an attempt to keep this thread on topic, the PDF from the Bryston site for OLD 2B manual contains schematics for the main board and power supply. One of the channels on my amp has a blown fuse, so I'll poke around and see if I can't find the short.
 
I went to Bryston once with a used 4BSST for a checkup, I was treated like royalty, an experiance I will never forget.
 
The more I hear about Bryston the more I like the idea of dealing with them as a company. Thanks for the input, I greatly appreciate it.
 
I wish I never sold my old 2B! :(

BTW, sejose, yep, found KTW, and the canadian version too. :)
