bsr subwoofers, downfiring eighteens!

wallowing in sound
a friend found these at a local grage sale, i remember reading that bsr subs weren't all that great but for 40 bucks i figure we can do something sweet with the cabinets. Anyone know what sub i'm talking about, there are two of them, which he plans to use as left and right sub/speaker stands.

I have actually found subs with bigger than 12" drivers tend to be muddy and inaccurate although I am sure there are exceptions to the rule.

well, im not using them for quality, im after quantity lol. Remember i am still of a tender bass loving age where bigger is almost always better.

man they sucked so bad with the internal crossover. I took it out and used an external crossover before the amp, and they are better. I think i will scrap the eighteen drivers and use the cabs for something a little larger, say the adire eighteen.

FWIW I have a Definitive Technologies 15" powered sub that goes nice and deep with good bass resolution. Its a transmission line design with a 200w amp iirc.

Oh I don't doubt it is possible to have a good one but in my opinion it would need to be expensive to be real good so it can be made from exotic materials so as to be light enough to be fast and not muddy up the sound being a lot slower than the speakers you are using it with. A lot of modern speakers are using multiple smaller woofers and are fast. Or you could time align by sitting on the sub and placing the mains 20' from you. :D

Look at me playing like I know something. Almost sounds convincing huh? :loser:

mmm woofer couch, four fifteens downfiring sealed with the cusions on top, that could be interesting.

I run a single fifteen in a large box with a lot of power behind it, i have found that the larger subs are quite capable of keeping up with the mids and higher frequencies but are often inadiquitely amped. I have 1000 rms to my fifteen and i guarantee i do not use nar half that but i do know that i have impact for days, which is part of speed. I listen to a lot of metal with double kick drum and selecting a sub driver took awhile, at first i just said i will run a car drivewr at four ohms, but most sucked so i chose an adire tempest, mainly on price, but also its pretty damn linear and quick.
