Buchardt S400 vs KEF R3

The one critique on the Buchard's that you hear from people selling theirs is that they need to be played fairly loudly to sound good. People buy them to put in smaller spaces and don't want or can't play them that loudly.

With that said I have never seen a pair for sale. I have seen 2 pairs of Buchardt Audio S 300's on Agon.

I've run across a few folks commenting on forums that returned theirs after a trial, and I saw one pair sell at Audiocircle.

JBLStudio 530 at $300/pr (on sale right now) with free shipping and free return. Outstanding reviews and risk free audition that is served right to your front door. This is one of those situations that will leave many saying in the not too distant future “I’m kicking myself for not at least trying them when they had that free shipping/returns sale going on.”

well I went with the S400's but am kinda having second thoughts. I am looking at Dynaudio special 40's. Thoughts?

I’ve got the jbl 530s boxed and ready to ship back, will be checking out a set of the s400’s at lunch today. I’m a little concerned about the low listening level comments, I generally listen lower say around 75db based off my iPhone 7’s sensors. Will follow back up what I find. I.e. I’m going to buy them regardless as the price is almost 50% less than final shipped price and figure I can sell them later anyway.

rhe jbl’s for 300 are really really good, but I prefer the elac uni-5 over them.

Yeah I heard the comments about low listening levels on another forum too, I think I am gonna be impressed once they get here but I've heard great things about the special 40's. Lemme know what you think when you listen to the s400's today

Wow is what I think. Can’t wait to get them in my setup.

And my lamps fit, it’s my only caveat. Darn expensive lamp stands! Grills must remain due to poky fingers, you’ll notice the Minecraft LEGO sets on my turntable.

So right off the bat I'll say there is no low level listening issues, not certain where that is coming from. What i'm struck by at the moment is I'm on the other end and opposite side of a 14x35' room from where the speakers are, is how good and detailed it still sounds, you'd swear they were placed at the far end of the room pointing at you, not at the wall away from you. OK more later, it's a snow day and so sad I have to spend it with these.

Normally where I'm sitting is full of really bad sounding artifacts, not so much with these.
