how limited is limited? how big or small?
I'm in NZ. I can say NZD$600 max, and you can convert that into USD$490 by the current market, but you still won't have any real indication of what we can spend, as prices are grossly inflated down here.
For example, I recently purchase a sound card for my PC. The cheapest I could get it here in NZ was NZD$360 that converts to USD$290 odd. But in America the same card can be had for USD$155 (NZD$190 converted).
Size can be fairly large, up to say, 500mm high, 300mm wide, 400mm deep.

Hope there are other Kiwi's around here, I have no idea what the used and new audio market looks like there.
I think all candidtates you mention are nice (I'd probably add a sub for my musical tastes.).
Over here I'd definitely have a look at (both active and passive) studio monitors too, considering bang for buck at the big musicians stores.
I also wonder; Is buying + shipping from Hong Kong perhaps worthwhile?

wharfedale diamond 9.1 wins hands down,try and get the 75th anniversary edition, it has the same walnut wood finish as their 20k flagship!!

Just checked and wow, the current Diamond series are crackin' cheap (here) too.
I actually owned the 9.1s for a while, and they were my recommendation to my brother. He was pretty keen on the anniversary finish too. But I started to get the impression that the 9.1s were not so popular these days. They seem to have gone through an a400esque cycle of extreme hype followed by an "oh they were so overrated" lull.
Anyway, the 9.1s are still high on his list. They look great, and are front ported which is probably good in this case as they'll be quite close to the wall. Over here they're reasonably priced compared to the other examples I listed, but no-where near as cheap as when I bought mine a couple of years back.
